Founded in 2013 by Gerald Eze, Ichoku Academy is a pioneering Nigerian musical institution committed to preserving and promoting Igbo music, culture, and integrated arts. The academy started its activities with three dedicated families, and over the years, we have trained a lot of students, many of whom are now excelling in medicine, law, engineering, and the arts—while remaining passionate ambassadors of Igbo heritage.

Western education has left a gap in the way the African person understands itself and its environment. Therefore, our efforts are geared towards returning the African person to a consciousness of African cultural values through education.

Until recently, Nigerian professionals such as medical doctors, engineers, and lawyers were rarely custodians of Igbo musical instruments. At most, many received training in Western musical traditions and instrumental practice. As a result, Igbo musical culture has remained largely in the hands of Igbo rural communities.

Having trained children from their primary school days up to the University level, on Igbo music and musical instruments, we have reversed this narrative. Consequently, our alumni network of youths across different professions continues to inspire younger generations, proving that professionals in any field can also be masterful performers of Igbo music and instruments.

We provide holistic education through music, sports, dance, public speaking, and literature, shaping well-rounded individuals who will lead with creativity and cultural pride. We are established physically in our cultural centre in Awka, but run micro-programmes in Nnewi and Enugu. We are projecting to create more centres across Nigeria and Africa at large.
