Children

At Ichoku Academy, we welcome our youngest learners into the magical world of traditional Igbo music, where rhythm, storytelling, and play come together. Named after the Ichoku—the talkative, colorful parrot and the legendary griot masquerade—our academy brings the ancient art of oral tradition to life for a new generation. Our children’s program is specially designed to capture the boundless energy of youth, transforming curiosity into musical skill through joyful, age-appropriate learning that keeps kids engaged from the very first note.

Through these lively group sessions, children discover the vibrant sounds of indigenous musical instruments and learn to sing authentic Igbo folk songs. Our curriculum uses music as a powerful educational tool, helping kids naturally develop fundamental skills like rhythm, coordination, language, and active listening. By interacting with the music of our ancestors, children don’t just learn notes—they absorb the profound stories, moral lessons, and symbolic values embedded within Igbo culture, building a strong foundation for their personal growth.

We believe that understanding where you come from is essential to discovering who you are. By introducing children to their rich cultural heritage early on, we help them develop a deep sense of identity, pride, and belonging within their community. Our passionate instructors create a warm, nurturing environment where every child feels confident to express themselves, make new friends, and share in the joy of communal music-making. At Ichoku Academy, we are proudly restoring our indigenous arts to their rightful place, ensuring this beautiful legacy becomes a living part of your child’s future.
